About the Artist
Bhakti Mar Baxter was born in Miami Florida in 1979 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Baxter received his BFA from the New World School of the Arts College in Miami and his work has been featured in several group and solo exhibitions around the world. Solo exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami (2002), Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery in Paris, France in 2005, Bravin Lee Programs in Manhattan, New York (2009), Fredric Snitzer gallery, Miami (2007), Federica Schiavo Gallery, Rome (2010), Art and Culture center of Hollywood (2014) and Nina Johnson gallery, Miami (2016). Working in a variety of media including sculpture, painting, and drawing, the varied methods and materials often focus on the blurry territory amid science and spirituality. Accepting art making as a process of learning, Baxter’s practice aims to bridge a medial relationship between the seemingly ordinary and the interpretive freedom of abstraction. The resulting subjects, forms, patterns and processes are in constant dialogue with natural systems, exploring how the mind interacts with matter while acknowledging the importance of exercising intuition to locate explanations.
