About the Artist
“Feelings are so abstract and it's our duty to learn to understand how we flow so we can grow into the direction that makes us flourish the most.”
Caratoes was born and raised in Belgium. Upon graduating from university with a background in biochemistry and game design, she moved to Amsterdam, but then left her stable high-end job behind to go on a pilgrimage to Hong Kong, China to discover her ancestral roots. Spiraling down into depression about identity, she found salvation in graffiti. It became a complete obsession and since then, she has become nomadic, spending the next decade flying around the globe with murals on almost every continent.
Using her artwork as a form of meditation, Caratoes pushes the boundaries and stereotypes of what a femme POC (person of color) can do when given a boom lift and paint. Exploring themes of cultural and gender identity, she is determined to share these stories and empower others through her work.
