Green house, meditation room
About the Artist
This installation was produced through an artist residency program through
Akron Soul Train. The scale and texture of this work invites the viewer to engage their senses, challenge their own perceptions, and connect. "Green House, Meditation Room" gives a voice to the eternal questions regarding breaking down, being rebuilt, and how many times "rebirth" can occur.
The usage of reclaimed materials reflects the idea that these discarded items can transcend the boundaries of "trash" and be resurrected into something to be desired and appreciated. What was once broken and empty is now full of light and has been nursed back to life and utilization.
Dana L. Depew is one of Cleveland's most prolific artists. He resurrects thrown out cast offs and found objects into wholly new and unique objects. Visiting Dana Depew’s labyrinthine basement-studio is a lot like wandering through an old thrift store. Hundreds of paintings, sculptures and found objects are piled high everywhere you look. Some are finished. Others stand like bits of memorabilia in a museum with no discernable theme.
